Spring 2011 Newsletter

It's Penn Brewery's 25th Anniversary!

How time flies! It's been 25 years since we started brewing our beer - making Penn the oldest brewery actively producing beer in Pittsburgh. From making old favorites like Penn Pilsner to new brews like Allegheny Pale Ale, Penn has seen many changes over the years, but one thing has remained constant - our commitment to making the highest-quality craft beer in Pittsburgh's oldworld tradition.

We'll be celebrating our anniversary throughout 2011 with several new Penn beers and special events at the Brewery - including our 80's-themed "Return to 1986" party on July 29th & 30th. Please check for information on our website regularly so you won't miss out!

Thanks for a great 25 years - and here's to 25 more!

New Penn Beers Are On The Way

Brewers Andy Rich and Nick Rosich are crafting several new beers for spring and summer. Their Summer Berry Weisse is a light-tasting, refreshing wheat beer flavored with a ripe berry blend - perfect for the warm weather season. Summer Berry Weisse will be available in 12 oz. bottles and on draft in time for Memorial Day.

In addition, Andy and Nick are also bringing back two old Penn favorites this season for their limited-edition Brewer's Choice series. The first, Penn Weizen Bock, won a silver medal at the 2008 World Beer Cup Competition. It's a stronger, darker, maltier version of our Hefe Weizen. The second, our Penndemonium Maibock, is a strong, golden, malty bock beer that's traditionally served in the spring. Be careful with this one - its strong, smooth taste will bowl you over!

Penn Weizen Bock is now available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles at select venues around Pittsburgh. Maibock will follow at the end of April. And looking ahead to summer, we'll be celebrating our 25th birthday with a special Imperial Pilsner on draft and in 22 oz. bottles at the end of July. Finally, another Penn favorite - Kaiser Pils - has returned in 12 oz. bottles. Look for it at your favorite distributor.

We've Expanded Our Menu!

Penn is happy to announce the rollout of our new spring lunch and dinner menus.

"We wanted to stay true to the Euro-Pittsburgh style of food, but broaden the number of items on the menus as well as add more variety among the dishes to appeal to our customers' different tastes in food," said Chef Greg Schrett.

Penn's new menus feature old favorites including Schweinebraten, potato pancakes, and Schnitzel; some new "Pittsburgh ethnic" dishes including a kielbasa reuben, fish & chip pierogi, and Scotch eggs; and more "light" offerings including a grilled vegetable sandwich, hummus, and a Beer Garden Burger made with brewery grain. In addition, special seasonal dishes will also be featured on an in-andout basis. See our complete menus at www.pennbrew.com.
